How It Began
In the spring of 1967, all area students were transferred to the newly opened Elma Township Public School, in Newry. But without a way to get the kids to and from the new campus, the community reached out to the reliable local dairy farmer, George Weber of Welen Brae Farms, to create a transportation system for the students. George opened his new venture and operated 16 buses for several years, until selling to brothers Bruce and Harold Srigley in 1978.
A Family-First Approach
Upon their new ownership, the brothers renamed the business Newry Coach Lines and carried on the legacy of excellent service, growing the company to include routes extending to Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS). A new maintenance facility was constructed in 1987 to help support the expansion of the company, and in 1999 the Srigley brothers sold to John and Janice Chapman – marking the start of the Chapman’s family-first business approach that Newry Coach is known for today.
A Company Steeped in Experience
Prior to their purchase, John worked as a transport truck driver for 20 years, while Jan was an elementary school teacher for 34 years. School transportation was a career that brought both of their strengths together and made them a very formidable, committed pair that infused a lot of dedication not only to their business, but to their newfound industry. Over their 24 years of ownership, John and Janice grew Newry Coach to operate more than 48 buses, providing student transportation for 14 schools across 5 counties in Ontario. They also oversaw four expansions, including a new office and maintenance facility in 2014 to ensure they continued their promise of providing service above the industry standard.
Continuing a Legacy of Elite Service
In 2022, Newry Coach Lines became a proud recipient of the North Perth Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. And in 2024, we became part of the STA Family of Companies, with the goal and passion to continue the traditions of those before them, and to maintain a family-first mentality at the forefront of our daily operations. Newry Coach Lines continues to provide the excellent customer service that the Western Ontario community has grown to expect from our team members.
