Driver Safety & Training

Offering In-House Training for a Safer Driver

It is our mission to hire bus drivers and transportation staff who share our values of compassion, safety, and customer service, and we provide our employees with training of the highest level. We have an unwavering commitment to our maintenance department and the safety of our entire fleet of vehicles. We believe that starting each school day with a familiar face is an important step in the education process, with drivers who are compassionate and confident in the safe management of their school buses.

All of us at Newry Coach Lines are proud to stand out from the industry standard!

Driver Training Program

Driver Training Program

Newry Coach Lines is one of only a few busing companies that offer in-house B and Z courses for their staff. This is not a common (nor standard) practice in the busing industry due to its lengthy process and the requirement of a trained professional that is adequately up-to-date in all areas of government policies. To ensure our passengers and bus drivers are always safe on the road, our drivers are provided with mandatory CPR and First Aid courses, as well as AODA Compliant safety courses.

Up-to-Date On All Things Safety

Up-to-Date On All Things Safety

We are always updating drivers on the latest safety information to ensure our passengers are in good hands, along with conducting Police Background Checks, Vulnerable Sector Checks, and medical checks by a doctor on all of our NCL drivers.

We offer industry-leading driver training. We are one of only a few companies approved by the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario to offer:

  • School Bus Driver Licence Upgrades
  • The School Bus Driver Improvement Course
  • Air Brake Endorsement Training

Monthly Safety Meetings

Monthly Safety Meetings

We provide our employees with quality training material throughout the year, with a series of campaigns that highlight specific topics during our mandatory monthly safety meetings.

The series focuses on key months of the school year with material that includes meeting presentations and quizzes, videos, prevention tips and safety reminders, printable safety activities, and more. The safety training campaigns are intended to enhance and supplement the additional efforts taking place locally and the specific needs of individual terminals and customers.
